CLASS ON DEMAND Free Hand Hallingdal Design

$105.00

Nordic Canvas is pleased to offer a class taught by the one and only Pam Rucinski, VGM! She is a sharing and giving teacher so full of knowledge! She will be teaching a Hallingdal rosemaling class and showing us how to do it free hand. Yes, you CAN do it.

Supply List:

Woodenware: #522 Paddle board from Mike Lusk. It can be ordered by calling him at (6080 452-3472. Background with a green black color, using 2 coats, sanding between coats. If you wish, you may paint on a backgrounded mat board, approximately 8”x 11” that fits the design.

NOTE ABOUT BACKGROUND COLOR:

Pam says you can use an equal part of Carbon Black and a deep green such as Viridian or Pine Green. It will be a softer color than straight black. If using an acrylic mix, make sure you seal your wood. PROCESS: seal with a multi-purpose sealer, sand, add sealer to the background color, sand, paint with the background color again, lightly sand, paint with clear glaze medium. If you wish to use a house paint contact us and we will send you a label of the Dutch Boy can from Pam. This is an interior semi gloss paint.

Oil colors:
The class will be taught in oils, but acrylic painters are welcome.

Titanium White
Prussian Blue
Ivory Black
*Mars Red Orange
*Mars Yellow
Cinnabar Green Deep
Raw Umber
Yellow Ochre

*I use Old Holland brand for these 2 colors.

Other supplies:

Watercolor pencil in a light color or dustless chalk
Linseed oil – I use Allback purified boiled linseed oil
Odorless Paint thinner (My favorite brand is Mona Lisa)
Ruler
Small T-Square
Circle template
Kneaded rubber eraser
Wipe out tool
Palette and palette knife
Viva paper towels
Whatever else you usually use for painting.

Brushes

Round Brushes: Use whatever brand works for you.
Size: #2, 4 and 6
Liner: I use a #2 Script liner but use what works for you, short or script, #1 and/or 2

I prefer round brushes since they were traditionally used for Hallingdal. If you have never used please give them a try. If you prefer, you can use Filberts, except for the liner brush strokes.
