CLASS ON DEMAND: Holidala 5.0  The Setesdala

Join Kim for her annual tradition…the Holidala!!  This year she is celebrating the Setesdal style with the Setesdal inspired Setesdala.  Painted on a dark blue background, the design is painted with traditional Setesdal colors and hints of Holiday sparkle.

The class will be taught in oils, but as always, acrylic painters are welcome.

Below is the information you will need to complete your Setesdala.

Materials List

Oil Paints (Acrylic Paint (JoSonja brand)

Prussian Blue (Storm Blue)

English or Venetian Red (Red Earth)

Raw Seinna (Raw Seinna)

Yellow Ochre (Yellow Oxide)

Raw Umber (Raw Umber)

Titanium White (Titanium White)

Mars Black (Carbon Black)

Rich Gold Archival Oil (Acrylic Metallic Gold)

Optional

Cadmium Red (lightNapthol Red)

Background Colors

JoSonja Galaxy Blue or similar dark blue paint.You can also choose to background in a deep green such as JoSonja Forest Green.Kim is using the Galaxy blue.

(if you choose to use the deep green background you will need to add Green Earth oil paint or Hooker’s or green oxide green if painting in acrylics).

Brushes

#2,4, and 6 Filbert or Shader. (Kim uses filberts)

# 1 and #2 liner brushes of your choice

#1 round or a teardrop brush

Other optional Tools

Q-Tips or rubber eraser of your choice

Stylus or dotter

Chalk pencil

Liquin Original

And of course, any other equipment and mediums you typically use when you paint.Kim uses artist grade refined linseed oil and an odorless brush cleaner like Mona Lisa or Masterpiece brand.

Choose 12 inch, ¼ inch thick, whether you add a hole is up to you…

They ship pretty fast but it’s always good to order early!

Backgrounding instructions:

Sand your horse before painting. Then apply 2 or 3 coats of your background paint, sanding lightly in between coats.You can add a light sealer to the topcoat if you choose.Then, trace on your design pattern and you’re ready for class!

Kim uses magnesium carbonate for tracing on her pattern but use your favorite technique.Saral wax-free transfer paper is a good choice as it wipes off pretty good.
