As the second part of the Folk Collaboration Kim Garrett has developed a fun project of painting a Dala Pig to go with a needle felting class with Laura Berlage.
Within the Swedish carving tradition from Dalarna there were carved horses, roosters and pigs! We had fun with Dala horses last year and we continue now with Dala Pigs!
Below you’ll find the basic supplies you need to complete the project. I’ll be painting / demonstrating in oils, but if you would prefer to paint along in acrylics that’s great too.
I’ll be painting on an 8 inch square canvas board available at most craft stores or on-line at places like
www.jerrysartarama.com or www.dickblick.com. Of course, you are welcome to use any background shape or material you choose Masonite, wood, etc.
This class is for all level of painters.

Brushes:
#2 & #4 filbert…You could also use shader/flat brushes.
#1 script liner…use the liner you like.
Background Prep:
I used JoSonja “Vellum” background paint. Any light beige or off white will do, I found titanium or snow
white a little too harsh. 2 coats of paints, sanding in between and when done. Feel free to use a clear glaze medium or mix a little all purpose sealer in your top coat of paint if you like. Lightly sand again after using a glazing medium before applying the design.
Additional Supplies:
Use the supplies that you usually need of either acrylic or oil painting.
A ruler
Chalk pencil or something to mark measurements
A piece of kitchen sponge.
Please have your surface backgrounded and have the design applied before class.
