Everyone needs a place for their keepsakes…their wishes, their secrets, their dreams. This little box is the perfect place to keep any or all of those things and more. Join Kim for a class painting a small box in the Valdres style of rosemaling. It would make a great gift for Mother’s Day, graduation or a birthday, (or to keep for yourself).
Kim will be painting in oils but acrylic painters are welcome of course.
Here’s what you’ll need:
A small box: The project measures 6” wide x 4” deep x 3” high. Something like a recipe box would work. You can choose any style you wish, or you may already have something just waiting to be painted. The pattern can be altered as needed.
Background colors: I used Americana Dioxazine Purple and Warm White. Of course, if purple is not your first choice you can use any colors you like. You may want to use a more traditional color palette. The actual design uses primarily traditional Valdres colors.
Design Palette: Oils Acrylic (Jo Sonja ) but use your favorites
Venetian or English red Red Earth
Burnt Umber Burnt Umber
Burnt Sienna Burnt Sienna
Raw Umber Raw Umber
Cadmium Red Light Scarlett or Vermilion
Caput Mortem or Alizarin Crimson Alizarin Crimson w/touch of black or Purple Madder
Mars Black Carbon Black
Yellow Ocher Yellow Oxide
Green Earth Green Oxide or Pine Green
Greenish Umber Olive Green w/ touch of black
Unbleached Titanium White or Unbleached Titanium White or
Titanium White Titanium White
Prussian Blue Storm Blue or Prussian Blue
Brushes:
I prefer Filberts for Valdres #2, #4 & #6
A liner or script liner of your choice #1, #2
Please use your favorite brushes. JoSonja and Dick Blick Masterstroke Golden Taklon are good choices
Your other painting supplies & mediums depending on your choice of oil vs acrylic paints.
If you need suggestions, please email us.
Please have your box backgrounded with the pattern on for the first class. The plan is to paint the top and front during the first class and finish the sides and linework during the second class.
Remember…We can adjust the pattern by enlarging it or adding additional flowers or linework to make it yours.
If you have any questions, you know where to find us!
