Valdres: Then and Now

This class will be two parts. The FIRST PART will be learning, through a project, Valdres from the early days (1700s-1800s). You will learn traditional colors, look at a few pictures, and have fun painting a traditional design. The fun continues with the SECOND PART of the class. The second project will be painting Valdres in the contemporary style. You will learn the colors used in contemporary Valdres rosemaling.

This class will be taught and demonstrated in oils.

Some Rosemaling experience is desired.

Project: the projects have been designed to be put on 10” scoop plates.

VALDRES THEN:

Background the plate in black.

Rosemaling oil paints: Titanium White, Yellow Ochre, Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna, Cadmium Red Light, Green Earth

Brushes: #1 liner, #2 filbert, #6 filbert

Other supplies: paper towel, palette, palette knife, artist grade linseed oil or walnut alkyd medium, tracing paper, transfer paper,
