As part of our Folk Artist Collaboration Series, this class will focus on painting a traditionally designedSwedish Dala Rooster. Less well known than the famous Dala horse, the dala rooster is another member of the family of carved animals made popular in the Dalarna region of northern Sweden. Roosters were thought of as protection symbols, being ever ready to sound an alarm when danger is near. For that reason, you’ll see the rooster in many types of Swedish folk art. Our rooster is designed to be painted on a flat surface to accompany the felted rooster in the Painting with Wool class, offered by fiber artist Laura Berlage. For those of you who are not painters, don’t worry, this class is very possible for you to complete too. We’ll be painting in acrylics, but as always, oil painters are welcome too!
