Nils Ellingsgard wrote in Rosemaling i Hallingdal, Sevat Uppheim (1809-1889) would have probably been known as one of the most significant and prominent Hallingdal rosemalers if he had painted longer than 10 years. Uppheim is connected to the Sata family of Hallingdal painters.
Together we will explore the work of Sevat Uppheim through looking at pictures of his known works, sketching elements of his style, working out his colors, doing a bit of painting, and marveling at his creative genius and extraordinary detail work.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Pencil
Eraser
Paper or Sketch book
2 sheets of canvas paper backgrounded in JoSonja Red Earth or something comparable
Oil or Acrylic colors: Yellow Ochre, Titanium White, Prussian Blue, English Red, Burnt Umber
Transfer material (I use carbonate of magnesia)
Chalk for drawing
Linseed Oil or painting medium of choice
Brushes: #6 flat or filbert, #2 liner, #2 round
